Herenia was born and grew up in Bogotá, Colombia, studied at the Lycée Français Louis Pasteur in Bogotá, and graduated from Indiana University. Upon retiring as a Medical Technologist at the National Naval Medical Center she earned the U.S. Navy’s highest civilian award, The Meritorious Civilian Service Award.
She studied Chinese painting with Rosalind Chang and Helen Sze McCarthy and is currently studying watercolors with Firouzeh Sadeghi. She has had exhibits in the Kensington Art Gallery, the Art and Frame Gallery of Cloverly and at the Paint Branch and River Road Unitarian Churches in the Washington area.
Herenia has done illustrations and covers for several of her husband Edd’s books and did the cover of her recent translation of Rabbi Sherwin Wine’s book, Staying Sane in a Crazy World.
